Why should we embrace limited government?
Limited government is both a sign and a symptom of a free society. As a sign, it signals that we as citizens are in control of our community – a government of the people, by the people and for the people. As a symptom, it reveals our character as citizens – we are productive, self-reliant, charitable and living providently.
Limited government is not a lack of government. It is necessary but only wherever necessary. The American constitutional structure was created with limited government in mind – with checks and balances, federalism, enumerated powers and a Bill of Rights.
Limited government is the American way in that it consistently encourages us as citizens to balance individual liberties, public virtues and healthy communities.
