Why should we embrace charity?
1. Mortality is difficult and people face hardships
2. People who are desperate or without a sense of hope pressure elected officials to use the coercive power of the state to assist them in their hardships
3. Private charity stands as a constructive alternative to government redress
There are always the “haves” and the “have-nots,” and the have-nots must press to satisfy their needs and wants, often at the expense of the haves. Charity de-politicizes natural material inequities. It provides relief without increasing the power of the state.
